Deepest apologies for the vacation
Welcome back everyone! I see many faces I remember and tons more new to me! Welcome back veterans and glad to have you newbies!
My deepest apologies for the strip’s long vacation. To not get into much detail, thankfully my feet are back underneath me again and I’m hopefully in a place where I can create the strip on a regular basis again. Currently there is a (huge) void in the strip (from August 4th to November 3rd) – I will try to refill this with content, but I do not want to promise what I am unsure I can deliver. If I do, you’ll be the first to know!
In the Works - Oh My Gods! Hardcover
While it's not ready to be finalized yet, I wanted to let all you lovely fans know about a special project I am working on. I am going to create an Oh My Gods! Special Edition Hard Cover book of the first Five Years of the strip. It will be pretty! It will be fantastic! It will (sadly) also be very expensive! However, I know there will be at least one customer (me) and perhaps maybe more!
Just wanted to give you all a tease!

It's a good question.
Why IS it a year and a day?
"There are more things in Heaven and Earth...than are dreamt of in your philosophy" ~Hamlet
Hrm.
I always assumed the "year and a day" was so that if you couldn't hack it the first time you have to wait an entire year before you can jump into the next one. Of course, I mostly heard about a "year and a day" in relation to hand-fasting. :D

A Year and a Day
The whole idea of a year and a day is basically to give someone time to think, really think, about what they're getting themselves into. If you initiate someone and they're not serious about it, pulling out two months after the start, what has that accomplished?
As far as the handfasting thing, it was Scottish Common Law for a while that a man and woman had to live together for a year and a day before being married. Same thing at work here; if they find out they can't stand each other, no harm done.
"As She drifts through our lives, tossing coins into the air..."
I believe
I was under the belief that it was set as a determination marker. It shows that you are willing to go that extra day before the next step.

I think it's like not going swimming until "an hour - a GOOD hour" after eating. Or how people jumped the gun proclaiming the "new millennium" in 2000, even though it actually started in 2001.
You don't want any quibbling about exactly when the hour (or in this case, the year) expires, so you give it a little padding.
eh
I always thought it was because saying a year and a day is slightly more poetic than saying over a year.

Samhain
I'd always heard that since Samhain is a "Day out of Time" the year and a day is just a year.. and Samhain.
Actually...
Hey there. Actually back in the old days they used a calendar of 13 months of 28 days each=364 days. So a year and a day is what we would call a full year. It is very poetic though.
No there wasn't...
This "ancient" calendar was retroactively invented by Robert Graves during World War II.
No one who actually had a clue about lunar cycles would ever think that 28 days is the length of a lunar month. But Graves wasn't interested in cluefullness. Graves was a prophet, not a scholar.
To the land where the Bong-tree grows...
And here I thought it was because the Owl and the Pussycat needed a ring.
stupid extra day...
#@$%^ leap years be messin a bitch up >:(

Year and a day
ahh Actually This is another thing like did the new millenium start at the beginning or end of 2000..
It's how we count anniversaries and birthdays.
Take this strips date for example.
November 18th, 2008
Now the anniversary of this will be November 18th, 2009.
But if you count the days it comes to
a year and a day.
One year is November 17th, 2009
Weeks go the same way.
One week is 7 days.
But.
Monday to Monday is 8 days.
a week and a day.
It really just works out to being the correct way of counting any anniversary.
